Pattern, design, specific words that mean specific things…sometimes. Several years ago, I learned how to sew clothes. I’ve made most of my own wardrobe. I’ll get into that. Along the way, I have had many people ask me if I sell any? My reluctance was twofold. One, I really didn’t think I was that good. Two, I didn’t design the pattern. As to the first item, I know I am now. For the second item. Turns out, I don’t have to.
Well, for the most part. There is some conflicting information on that particular point.
Leaving that aside for now though. Let’s “define” some terms.
Generally speaking, I will try to write “pattern design”. In the context of what I am doing; the pattern is the template, steps, and instruction I used to cut the various pieces from fabric then sew them together. So, if I say I love a pattern, I mean the “cut/style”. If I’m referring to what’s on the fabric, paisley, stripe, dots, etc. I will say print.
Starting out, I’ll be using patterns for which specific permission is given to use the patterns as is, or modify them in any way to make things to sell. And trying to document my progress along the way.
